So who makes more money..a dental hygenist or the dental assistant???
hygenist
Reply:i have a friend that was wondering the same thing

if i am correct she found that dental hygenist made more

and she like the job better because you actually are working on patients
Reply:Dental Hygenist, for sure
Reply:I would think that a dental assistant.................
Reply:Hygenists make better money; they have training.
Reply:Definetly a dental hygenist! I used to be a dental assistant and I made 10 dollars an hour. I know for a fact a dental hygenist makes a hell of a lot more than a dental assistant.
Reply:RDH's ( they are professionals, gouverned by a professional order, they have to pay there license in order to be called hygienist and practice hygiene. Do not forget years of academic and clinical training.)

Salary varies from states to states or provinces if you're in Canada. In Canada, there are provinces that dental hygienist can have their own dental office and work alone/without a dentist.

Sorry DA's
Reply:Hygienists make more. I'm not sure what a Dental Hygienist makes for salary, but I can tell you that I am a Dental Assistant and I make $10.50/hr. The Assistant's job is more of an entry-level type of work, (the 3rd hand, as I call myself) whereas, the Hygienist position requires several years of college.

One of our Assistants at my workplace just started Hygiene school. I should ask her what starting salary is. She left because after 6 years, Assisting wasn't challenging enough for her any more.

I hope this helps. Good luck!!!
Reply:Hygenist. In the Dallas area, they can pull about $40 an hour.

Assistants make about half that much in a specialized practice; but it depends on the area in which you work.
Reply:without a doubt, the dental hygienist
Reply:A dental hygienist. We don't have more training....we have college degrees.
Reply:Hygienist for sure. They are specialist in Hygiene where as an assistant only "assist" the Dr. Hygienist perform procedures such as Scaling and Root planing, Full mouth Debribement, and Prohylaxis. All an assistant is able to do is suction, sterilize, take xrays, and again, assist the Dr. If the assistant has an extended license such as RDA-EF (registered dental assistant extended functions) then they can preform other duties such as making temporary crowns and applying sealants. Even so an RDA-EF will only make around 22-30 dollars an hour depending on what state you live in. DA's make anywhere from 10-16 dollars and hour and RDA 16-22 an hour.

A hygienist can make 50-70 and hour easily and are also sometimes commissioned on product sales, such as, toothbrushes, paste, and other hygiene products.
