Questions on dentistry?

is it possible to obtain a general D.D.S in under 8 years? i'm not talking specializing, just general. if so how is that possible and what schools are good for that??????...also... if i become a dental hygenist (4 years of undergrad) is it easy/even possible to go to dental school after i get the degree in dental hygene to become a general dentist?? i would think it would be easy to make that transaction, considering the fact that a hygenist is halfway there to becoming a dentist- but i am not 100% sure. or do you have to stick to the undergrad degree in a science like chemistry or biology??

Questions on dentistry?
You can get a dental hygiene degree in 2 years at many schools. Then take one year to get your dental pre-reqs done. Then 4 years of dental school. So, a total of 7 years. However, this is difficult to do. Hygiene school does not help you get into dental school, won't hurt though, and not having a bachelors degree will hurt.

Better to got to a 4 year undergrad program, any major will work, but must do a year of chem, physics and biology but that can easily be worked in. The dental school for 4 years. You can practice right after graduating.
Reply:1st question-Yes. You will have to take more classes than recommended and summer school. It would be lots of work but it is possible. I guess any school would be fine. You would have to jump ahead in undergrad, I don't think you can skip ahead in dental school

2nd question-It is possible to go to dental school after earning a degree in dental hygiene. Hygiene school took exactly 3 years, no shortcuts. It would look really good on your dental school applications to have that much experience in the dental field already.

3rd question-You still have to earn a BS degree in a science to get accepted into dental school. Most of the courses required to get into a dental hygiene program can go toward a BS degree in science.

You will be really busy for a while, but you can do it. Good Luck!
