Medical Career: Dentist or Dental Hygenist?

Which career do you think is better, Dentist or Dental Hygenist?

Medical Career: Dentist or Dental Hygenist?
I love my profession as a dental hygienist. I feel there is a good and bad side to both professions though. A dentist does have to go to school 8 years or more if you specialize (orthodontist, periodontist, etc.) and, if you decide to open a private practice, you have the pressures of running a business. However, you would enjoy the benefits of more income. I had to go to school for 3 years. I would have to go back to school if I wanted to teach. I do work for a dentist, but because it is a small work environment, I have more flexibility. I do make really good money, too.

Which profession is better? It's just depends on you.
Reply:Dentist. A Dentist has higher pay, has more control over his hours, etc. If your a Dental Hygenist you will end up working for someone else.
Reply:Dentist, naturally.
Reply:Dentists do make more money, but they go to school for twice as long, and if you have your own practice, it takes a lot to start up, it is owning a business, so you have to be a good business owner as well as dentist, or have a great office manager who is extremely trustworthy.

I vote hygienist, they have great hrs, can leave when the day is done, don't have to worry about emergency pts., and still make a nice living with a lot less in student loans.
