I am having scaling and root planing done on my entire mouth in one visit tomorrow. Should I be nervous?

I requested to have this done all at once due to babysitting issues with my son. The dental hygenist said she could and that she would work straight through.

I am nervous about having this done all at once. Can you please share with me your advice or experience? Should I ask for gas or is the local paste they use enough?

I am pleased that you said you requested this done in one session. This is not normal procedure. There are many variables that make it hard to answer your question. The biggest one being when was your last cleaning? You are the only one who can judge your pain tolerance. There are several pain management options your hygienist can offer you. You may consider injections on really sensitive areas. Most of all relax. Your in good hands. I am studying to be a D.H. and I can assure you, your D.H. would not offer to do this treatment if they did not consider it safe and effective.
Reply:TO HAVE THIS DONE YOU WILL BE GIVEN ANESTHETIC AND YOU WILL NOT BE FEELING ANY PAIN.

GAS WILL MAKE IT MORE COMFORTABLE FOR GETTING THE SHOTS REQUIRED.

YOU WILL BE JUST FIME.
Reply:I've unfortunately had to have several dental procedures from root canals, to extractions, and braces. I have had the scaling and root planing done, and it was probably less painful than having a cavity filled. I have to say it was one of the less painful things I've done.
